AlarmBee
The short answer
If you would rather not fight with settings, there is a shorter route: the AlarmBee Android app. It installs with your approval like any other app, and it requests its permissions as a normal Android app — not as a website inside Chrome. That skips most of the steps below.
The app is in closed testing — see apps in beta. Until it ships, the settings below solve the same problem through the browser.
First, the key point: these are two different permission systems
Android has app permissions (may Chrome see location?) and Chrome has website permissions (may alarmbee.gr request location?). Family Link locks both, in different menus. That is why the usual symptom is confusing: the camera works but no location arrives, or the other way round.
Step 1 — Unlock website permissions
This is mainly what fixes the photos.
- Open the Family Link app on your own phone.
- Select your child's account.
- Controls → Google Chrome and Web → Advanced settings
- Enable
Permissions for sites, apps, and extensions.
A useful detail: permissions that have already been granted stay in effect even if you switch this setting back off later. You can open it just long enough for the initial AlarmBee setup, then close it again.
Step 2 — Grant the permissions on the child's phone
- On the child's phone open AlarmBee (
app.alarmbee.gr). - Tap ACTIVATE.
- For every prompt that appears, choose Allow — location and camera.
Step 3 — Unlock the Android location permission
If the camera works but no location arrives, this is almost always the cause: the
device location permission is locked to Only parents, so the child cannot grant it to
Chrome no matter what they tap.
- Family Link → child → Controls → Signed-in devices → the device → App permissions → Location
- Select
Your child and parents.
An alternative, more targeted route:
- Screen time → App limits → Chrome → App details → Permissions → Location →
ON
Step 4 — If you use the "Only allow approved sites" filter
You must explicitly add app.alarmbee.gr to Approved sites, otherwise
your child cannot even open the page. Add alarmbee.gr too if you want them to be able
to read the instructions.
Step 5 — Check that everything is green
The AlarmBee activation screen shows badges for Location and Camera.
Both must read OK. If one does not, revisit that specific step — you do not need to
start over.
The "Install app" button never appears
On some supervised accounts Chrome simply does not show the install prompt. Google does not document Family Link as the cause, but we ruled out cache, an already-installed app and approved sites, and it persists. Two workarounds:
- Another browser: install from Firefox or Edge.
Family Link's Chrome settings do not apply to other browsers.
Note: Firefox does not support the Battery Status API, so no battery level is sent from it. - Or skip installing entirely: AlarmBee works fully from a plain browser tab. You only lose the home-screen icon. See the installation guide.
Why we don't ask you to turn Family Link off
You don't need to, and we don't recommend it. The settings above are narrow: they concern only the permissions an alarm needs. The rest of your parental controls — screen time, filters, app approvals — stay exactly as you set them.
