Safe Youth and AlarmBee: what each one does
Both are called a "panic button", which is why they get confused. In practice they do different jobs: Safe Youth alerts police emergency response, AlarmBee alerts the parents. One is not a replacement for the other.
The short answer
If a child is in immediate danger and needs a patrol car, Safe Youth goes straight where it should. If you want to know within seconds yourself, with location and a photo so you can judge what is happening, that is what AlarmBee does. A child can have both.
What Safe Youth is
The official app of the Hellenic Police and the Ministry of Citizen Protection, for minors aged 12 to 18. Free on Google Play and the App Store, with an official site at safeyouth.gov.gr.
It gives a minor four routes to the police:
- A call to 10201, the Minors Protection Sub-Directorate line.
- An anonymous or named report through a platform on gov.gr.
- A call to 100.
- An Emergency Button: a silent alert to police emergency response, for when the minor cannot speak.
It also carries educational material on bullying, abuse and delinquency, tailored by age group. Registration asks for the minor's details, so the police know who the call concerns and where to send help.
What AlarmBee is
A private service. The child presses one button and every parent phone goes off at once with a siren and vibration. Alongside it arrive GPS coordinates with a map link, photos from both cameras, battery percentage and network type — and the same evidence is emailed as well.
It connects to no authority. The parents are the ones who see what is happening and decide whether a call to 100 or 112 is needed.

Why they are not competitors
Most of what worries a parent is not a call for a patrol car. It is the child who missed the bus, who lost the group on a school trip, who got scared on the walk home. In those cases the right person to know is the parent, not emergency response.
And the reverse: when there is a real threat to a minor's life or physical safety, no private app sends a patrol car. There, Safe Youth and 100 are the right route, and we say so plainly.
If you have a teenager aged 12 or over, the sensible setup is both, with a clear understanding of which one to press when.
For children under 12
